Crispy Chili Beef
Ingredients:
For the marinade:
- 1.25 lbs beef (ribeye or flank steak work great)
- 1 tsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp red chili flakes
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
- pinch of black pepper
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup + 2 tbsp cornstarch
- peanut oil/canola oil (for shallow frying)
For the sautee:
- 1 red chili pepper
- 1/2 large white onion
- 3 cloves garlic
- 1 red pepper
- 1 tbsp minced fresh ginger
- Bunch of spring onion, cut in 1-2 inch lengths
For the sauce:
- 2 tbsp dark soy sauce
- 4 tbsp sweet chili sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 2 tsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp onion powder
Instructions:
- Thinly cut slices of steak (about 1/4 inch thin) against the grain
- Combine steak with all marinade ingredients and mix well
- Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, and preferably up to 8 hours
- In a skillet, shallow fry marinated steak until golden and crispy on each side (around 2-3 minutes per side at medium-high heat)
- Set crispy beef aside
- Sautee red peppers and thinly sliced onion with garlic and ginger, and add in sauce
- Add in thinly sliced red chilis and spring onion
- Mix in crispy beef with the rest, and enjoy!
